Visiting Our Brother
By: Fr. Tony Krótki OMI
A Great Trip to British Columbia
Fr. Daniel and Fr. Tony have planned last summer to visit one of their Oblate Friends who lives in Smithers, in the far northwest of British Columbia. For two years already Fr. Tony was determined to make such trip no matter how far it would take him to see Fr. Frank Kuczera OMI.
In the course of his preparation to the priesthood Frank used to live with Fr. Tony in the Arctic, in Gjoa Haven. Then, as newly ordained Oblate priest, he was sent to work in Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut Territory. He spent there a whole year and then moved to British Columbia.
Fathers Frank and Tony kept in touch all these years and it made the trip finally possible. Fr. Daniel had the time to join Tony, having recently moved from Taloyoak to Repulse Bay.
Coming down from the white and icy cold Arctic tundra after a year of missionary work they enjoyed the sight of trees, grass, domestic animals and most of all the worm sunny days in British Columbia. They traveled to BC by car and thus Fr. Daniel got his practice behind the wheel for it was his first time to drive in the cities and on the highway.
They had a great vacation spending time with friends in Edmonton, visiting the Inuit friend at the Bible College, driving to Smithers and then south to Kelowna and Vancouver and coming back through Banff and Calgary. Fr. Daniel felt in love with one very special place - Drumheller in Alberta. After all those adventures they felt ready for another year above the Arctic Circle!
