Prayer for Nunavut

Inukshuk

We pray with our ancestors, who by their efforts brought us to where we are today. From the beginning of time they took care of our lives and embraced Christian faith in our camps and communities.

May our leaders of today make the same efforts to improve our lives.

Lord, help us to enjoy today's life, to have no fear, and to care for others. Help us to have a foundation as solid as rock to buid our future.

Thank you for the universe: the land, the sea, the sun, the moon, the stars, the animals and all life. We are very grateful that you created them as a gift of your love.

Jesus, our Savior, with your help may all the good things you created be used wisely. May these gifts be better recognized and appreciated by our descendants.

Thank you God for our families. We pray that in Nunavut families will continue to be strong in their faith and that the elders and the young will work closely together to create a better future.

Amen.

The Angelus

* The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary;
* And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary, full of grace...

* Behold the handmaid of the Lord;
* Be it done to me according to your word.
Hail Mary, full of grace...

* And the Word was made flesh;
* And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary, full of grace...

- Pray for us, holy Mother of God;
- That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech you, o Lord,
your grace into our hearts, that we,
to whom the incarnation of Christ, your Son,
was made known by the message of an angel,
may, by his passion and cross,
be brought to the glory of his resurrection.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father...

In this prayer we contemplate with Mary the mystery of Incarnation - God is becoming a man, assuming the human nature. Mary is accepting the mission to be the Mother of God: Jesus born as her son is in the same time the Son of God, God eternal himself, entering the history of humanity. Traditionally the prayer is said three times a day (morning, noon, evening) or once - at noon. The biblical reference for this prayer is Luke 1,26-38 and John 1,14.

The Apostles' Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceieved by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

This is the text of the profession of faith, called "The Apostles' Creed", and this because it is rightly considered to be a faithful summary of the apostles' faith. It is the ancient baptismal symbol of the Church of Rome. Its great authority arises from this fact: it is the Creed of the Roman Church, the See of Peter, the first of the apostles, to which he brought the common faith.

Prayer Before Reading the Holy Scripture

Lord,who can grasp all the wealth of just one of your words?

What we understand in the Bible is much less that what we leave behind, like thirsty people who drink from a fountain.

For your Word has so many shades of meaning,
just as those who study it have many different points of view.

You have colored your words with many hues
so that each of us is enriched
as we meditate upon it.

Your Word is a tree of life
that offers blessed fruit in abundance;
like the rock gushing water in the desert
it is for each of us a refreshing fountain.
"All ate the same spiritual food
and drank the same spiritual drink."

(Saint Ephrem)

Prayer for the Missions in the World

God, our Father,
you will that all be saved
and know your truth.
Send workers into your great harvest
that the Gospel may be preached to every creature
and that your people,
gathered together by the Word of Life
and strengthened by the power of the sacraments,
may advance in the way of salvation and love.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

(from the Roman Missal)

Prayer for the Spread of the Gospel in the World

God, our Father,
you sent your Son into the world
to be its true light.
Pour out the Spirit he promised us
and sow the truth in people's hearts
and awaken in them obedience to the faith.
May all be born again to new life in baptism
and enter the fellowship of your one holy poeple.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever.

Amen.

(from the Roman Missal)

Our Father

Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
